Wi-Fi QR code generator

Guests join the network by scanning the code. Nobody has to read out or type the password.

Scannability: Clear, at 25 mm print. Every check that needs no decoder passed at 25 mm print.

What a Wi-Fi QR code actually contains

The code holds one line of text: WIFI:T:WPA;S:network;P:password;; and nothing else. A camera that recognizes it offers to join; one that does not shows the line as plain text. The format is a convention scanners agreed on rather than a part of the QR standard, which is why a very old phone may only show you the text.

The three fields that decide whether it works

Security has to match the router: WPA covers WPA2 and WPA3, WEP is for equipment old enough that it should be replaced, and an open network takes no password at all. The network name is case sensitive and has to be exactly the one the router broadcasts. A hidden network needs the checkbox, or a phone that never sees the name being broadcast won't look for it.

Punctuation in the password is handled

Semicolons, colons, commas, quotes and backslashes are the format's own delimiters, so a password containing them is escaped on the way into the code and arrives on the phone as you typed it.

Anyone who scans it can read the password

It's stored as plain text, not encrypted: whoever photographs the code has your password, and a code taped to a window can be read from outside the building. That's the format, not this tool. For anything printed and left in public, put the code on a guest network and don't print the password of your main network.

Check the size before printing

A network name and password make a denser code than a short link does, so the modules come out smaller at the same size on the card. Set the physical size in the output panel and the scan check measures the module size in millimeters against what a phone camera can resolve, before you print rather than after.

Everything runs in the page: the network name and the password are never sent anywhere, which you can check in the network tab. Exports are SVG, PDF, PNG and WebP, and the code is static, so it doesn't expire and no server sits between the guest and the network.

If a code you already have won't scan, test it, and if you want to know what the pattern is doing, the explainer takes one apart.
